Although its location has not been identified, it seems likely they would have chosen a commanding position such as the Castle Rock , Arthur’s Seat, or Calton Hill. Edinburgh became a major intellectual centre, earning it the nickname “Athens of the North” because of its many neo-classical buildings and reputation for learning, recalling ancient Athens.
